Pelegrín, E.; Alvarez, S.; Galindo, J.; Regueira, E..

Fraga, I.; Galindo, J.; de Arazoza, M.; Sanchez, A.; Jaime Ceballos, B.; Alvarez, S..

Evaluation of protein extraction methods for enhanced proteomic analysis of tomato leaves and roots Anais da ABC (AABC)
VILHENA,MILCA B.; FRANCO,MÔNICA R.; SCHMIDT,DAIANA; CARVALHO,GISELLE; AZEVEDO,RICARDO A..
Proteomics is an outstanding area in science whose increasing application has advanced to distinct purposes. A crucial aspect to achieve a good proteome resolution is the establishment of a methodology that results in the best quality and wide range representation of total proteins. Another important aspect is that in many studies, limited amounts of tissue and total protein in the tissue to be studied are found, making difficult the analysis. In order to test different parameters, combinations using minimum amount of tissue with 4 protocols for protein extraction from tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) leaves and roots were evaluated with special attention to their capacity for removing interferents and achieving suitable resolution in bidimensional gel...

Growth and biochemical composition of Chlorella vulgaris in different growth media Anais da ABC (AABC)
CHIA,MATHIAS A.; LOMBARDI,ANA T.; MELãO,MARIA DA GRAÇA G..
The need for clean and low-cost algae production demands for investigations on algal physiological response under different growth conditions. In this research, we investigated the growth, biomass production and biochemical composition of Chlorella vulgaris using semi-continuous cultures employing three growth media (LC Oligo, Chu 10 and WC media). The highest cell density was obtained in LC Oligo, while the lowest in Chu medium. Chlorophyll a, carbohydrate and protein concentrations and yield were highest in Chu and LC Oligo media. Lipid class analysis showed that hydrocarbons (HC), sterol esthers (SE), free fatty acids (FFA), aliphatic alcohols (ALC), acetone mobile polar lipids (AMPL) and phospholipids (PL) concentrations and yields were highest in the...

Growth performance, morphometric analysis of the intestinal mucosa and thyroid of broiler fed canola meal Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Moraes,P.O.; Novelini,L.; Krabbe,E.L.; Kawski,V.L.; Nunes,J.K.; Corcini,C.D.; Varella,A.S.; Xavier,E.G..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of replacing soybean meal with canola meal in broiler diets on performance, liver histopathology, morphometry of the intestinal mucosa and thyroid. One-day-old Cobb chicks (n=300) were distributed in a completely randomized design, with increasing levels of replacement of soybean meal with canola meal (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) and 6 repetitions of 10 birds each. Weight gain decreased linearly (P< 0.05) with increasing levels of inclusion of canola meal, in all stages. Villus height in the duodenum and jejunum linearly decreased (P< 0.05). Follicle diameter and thyroid follicular epithelium height increased linearly with increasing levels of canola meal (P< 0.05). Similarly, there was an...

Heparin-binding proteins of seminal plasma in Nellore bulls Ciência Rural
Fernandes,Carlos Eurico; Souza,Fabiana Ferreira de; Souza-Neto,Jayme Augusto; Ribola,Paulo Eduardo Martins.
The aim of this study was to identify heparin-binding proteins (HBPs) in seminal plasma of Nellore (Bos taurus indicus) bulls. Bulls (n=4), 30-36 months old, 500-550kg with satisfactory seminal quality were selected. After the centrifugation, samples of the seminal plasma were pooled and the HBPs were isolated by heparin-affinity chromatography. The recovered HBPs fractions were pooled. One-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDSPAGE) 12.5% was performed in vertical minigels. Eight bands with molecular weights ranging from 15 to 63kDa were observed. Two proteins were identified (22 and 25kDa), similar to those previously described in Bos taurus taurus bulls. Other bands identified in this study (39, 53, 58 and 63kDa)...

ArchiMer
Pollard, David A.; Pichot, Paul.
Confusion has arisen over the nomenclature of certain fish of the family Centracanthidia, because of the colour variations due to sexual dichromatism, sexual inversions, protogynous hermaphroditism, and seasonal modifications according to the stage of maturity. A historical survey of nomenclature is presented for species described under the genera Maena, Smaris and Spicara, the last being the most recent. A morphological study and an electrophoretic study of the crystalline lens of the various species involved is described. The techniques and standards used are given. As a result of the study, and bearing in mind the effects of the variations mentioned above, it was concluded from electrophoretic comparisons that only 2 species are valid, Spicara maena and...

Campillo, Albert; Luquet, P..
The quantitiative requirements for protein have been determined in P. serratus reared from the post-larval stage to the 4th month. It appears that the apparent optimum percentage of protein in the diet is a minimum of 60%. At the 8th month, the mean wt of prawn reared with the best artificial diet (diet IV) is only 49% of the wt of shrimp reared with the digestive gland of Patella as a diet. The prawns reared to 4th month on a low-protein diet then reared on a natural diet until the 8th month, show important compensatory growth. However, the prawns do not achieve the wt of the control population, their average wt representing only 16% of the controls.
